The Observer magazine ran a brilliant article today on surrealist art and its spillover into architecture (eg Frank Gehry, Salvador Dali).
Why not see if you can find it online? I would strongly advise looking into this as I think it's possibly a subject not many of your peers would think of! Then if you have to make a model you could make your own surrealist scale model of a building too, drawing on the different surrealist influences you've researched!

Look up the architect Antonio Gaudi on the Internet. He had a very organic approach towards his designs; almost biological. You could come up with a series of artistic studies based on his creations. He has been described as "Art Nouveau" I would say his style was a precursor and possibly influenced this. Have a look at the cathedral in Barcelona (still an ongoing project!)

Why not try doing a childrens play area scheme, that way you could design lots of colourful projects and you dont have to get involved with the details of all the technical stuff.

Why not base it around ART deco?
...OR think of your OWN theme relevant to your local area...famous son of area...and develop your idea from what made them famous.
say for instance..you live near where Lewis Carol lived...you could design an area...based on Wonderland.
