What I'm having trouble with is playing the notes really fast.

I play oboe. I never found it extremely hard (I don't mean to sound stuck up but I've never had anything to compare playing the oboe with, so I can't say if it's hard or not). I personally think the key is practicing. I barely practice anymore, but when I was younger, I used to practice every day for at least 20 min. I think that's what helped me and when every other oboe player in my group quit, I stayed and am one of 3 oboes in my school now. Oboe is a great way to get into a college if you're good at it. It doesn't sound very fun, but the more you practice the more you'll get a better embouchure and tone and it will be easier to play. Someday you'll thank yourself.

You were not specific as to what is giving you troubles. I assume its your tone. Emboucure is key, and can be hard to get the hang of. Remember to cover both bottom and top teeth with you lips, but not tightly. Bite down too hard on the reed and youll just squeek. I havent played in years, but I remember it being very challegning. Its worth it though, becuase you dont have to compete with a whole section of other oboes. Dont ever give up becauase something seems to hard. You can do it!

i dont play oboe but i play a few other instruments. it does seem like a hard instrument to play but the only thing that can make you better is practise. if its just you dont have a strong interest in that instrument find another.piano is one of the most versatile and everyone digs it. or rip a guitar the best instrument ever invented.
