The conservation law for energy states that energy may not be produced or destroyed in any reaction. You definitely can transform energy and we make use of this every day. Your car transforms chemical potential energy into heat and mechanical energy to power it's motion. A plant converts solar electromagnetic energy into chemical potential energy in photosynthesis. Your body converts this chemical potential energy into heat and mechanical energy in respiration.

Even nuclear reactions are just transforming energy from one form to another, turning mass into radiation and heat. Remember mass is also a form of energy by Einstein's famous equation E0 = m c^2 (though he did not win his Nobel prize for this discovery, it seems to be what he is most popularly known for).
