I'm really shy but I've always wanted to take drama. Would it help me become more outgoing? Or would I be too shy to be good at it?

According to the Myers-Briggs personality indicator, INFP's make the best actors. The I being for 'introverted'.

Theatre has certainly helped me become more outgoing. My theatre teacher says one of his favorite parts of the job is watching timid freshman turn into brash seniors.

If you love theatre go for it! Or at least find out if you do. Don't let being shy get your way of doing things.

Its a way to make friends, and a way to teach yourself to be outgoing. Plus once you are able to relax and realize that everyone else is in the same boat you are, you'll do great! I use to be really shy and loved drama, but I never took it and I regret it because it would have been a great way to make friends and to get over my fears. Good luck!

GO FOR IT! When you're acting, you take on the role of your character. Do shy characters if you're afraid of the bold ones. There are different sides to us, good, bad, pretty, ugly, etc. Don't let being shy steal your dream of taking drama. Have fun and explore a new world.

I have taken drama, acting, dance and directing courses and I have to say YES! it will push you out of your comfort zone but it is worth it. Not only will it help you with being more outgoing and willing to talk to people it will help you with public speaking which is a huge asset in the corporate world ( not all actors remain actors). I have taken courses with shy people and they have all found more confidence in themselves after. go for it!

my sister was extremely shy (and still is) but she took drama and loved it. a lot of people who are shy are good in theater because on stage you aren't you you're someone else, a character. so a lot of people that are shy find it easy to open up on the stage because of that. go for it
