Personality is who you really are and Social Identity is who you are portrayed to be.

My common sense guess!

absolutely. i am at oxford, and i define myself as an oxford student, and more specifically as a member of the oxford college to which i belong. when i leave in june, i will define myself as an oxford alumni and my time here will be a defining part of who and what i am for the rest of my life.

i feel that this is for two reason: firstly because i have grown up a great deal over the last 3 years, and my experiences here have been very character-forming. secondly because most students here love oxford, and such are proud to be able to define themselves as a member of the current or ex- oxford community.

whether or not i define myself as an oxford student, however, has nothing to do with the future of the university. it will continue as one of the top universities in the world regardless.

Wow, sounds like we're doing your homework for you. Though personality can change, I think it's much more set than social identity. I think you can have a different one of those with each set of friends, co-workers, or family members that you have. In other words, we act differently with different sets, or kinds of people. Therefore, I think your "social identity" changes from group to group to group. However, your personality remains somewhat the same. If you are considered "outgoing" then you are always outgoing (personality), it just may come out in a different way in different settings with different groups (you may be loud in a bar, but in church you shake everyones' hand, or hug them, or pat them on the back).

personality is how you react to a stimulus. Social identity is the label society places on you due to your role in society.
