We don't pay attention to fashion and don't care if we look like the 60's or 70's, we just dress as we please. We can't be stereotyped as we were back then. We don't have a unique look, some of us may have short hair, some long, or some may be bald. Some may wear bell bottoms, some may wear shorts. Some may be liberals, some may be conservatives, some may not care one way or the other. We do have one thing in common though, we are non-conformists. I guess that's what I love the most about the good ole US of A. We are free to be what we wish to be.

I feel the real hippies were those of yesterday and the movements in America to correct the wrongs that the military and industrial polluters were trying to get away with. Also there was the awakening of civil rights and religious freedoms.
If I have to say that the hippie movement is still under way and you need to "label" someone, therefore those individuals would have to be the current environmental and sustainability thinkers. You could also say a hippie loves their fellow being and wishes a peaceful earth and a vision where many privileges become rights i.e. health-care,paper-trail voting, solar rights, consumer freedom, happiness (not in that order).

Anyone who:
1. goes to a "protest" that includes music and/or a drum.
2. wears patchuli, pr clothes made from hemp
3. Thinks George Bush is worse than Hitler (he isnt the best, but a Nazi or similar he aint)
4. complains about how bad Christians are for telling them thier personal views are wrong, and says Pagans dont do that (see feeding Christians to Lions, Hanging Christians on Crosses, etc). Most Christians keep to themselves and live and let live, its just the sqeeky wheel the hippies hear.
5. Belives raising the minimum wage will actually help the poor working class. It wont.
6. Someone who owns more than 2 cats
7. Someone who feels a socialist/communist system is better than free market/capitalism.
8. Someone who denies the existence of gender roles in the human species. Seriously, if they are so smart about nature and animals, they woudl notice that EVERY species on the planet has gender roles. Why should humans be anything different.
9. belives that the cost of gas (or anything for that matter) should be regulated by the Government. See the problems in the 70s when that happend. Companies are not goign to see a product if they do not make any money.
10. Thinks raiseing prices during a crisis or sudden increase in demand is price gouging or morally wrong. I live in Florida. When a Hurricane comes through we do not see gas for a very long time, since it isnt worth for the gas stations to pay extra for gas to get it in quickly, since they are not aloowed to raise the price of gas. I would rather have the option to buy 7 dollar a gallon gas then for their to be no gas at all.
There are more reasons.... too many to list. I am going to go eat a non organically raised steak now.

It has nothing to do with appearance, musical preferences and whether or not you smoke pot.
It has everything to do with your MORALS!!! If you want to make a change in the world and you love peace, then by all means, you are a hippie!

i think that hippies of today care about our earth, they recycle, they walk and ride bikes when possible... They are political, they see things in our government that aren't right and they take a stand. They are vegitarians or vegan... they just try not to harm anything...

A free-living person, who doesn't have a care in the world, well at least.. they don't care about politics. This is my point of view, since I consider myself a hippie. :P
