It's been a while since I've read it, but I do remember that I LOVED that book.

As one person pointed out, the characters seem to pop out of the page. Also they seem to be average, everyday people-not very imaginative, but very down-to-earth and easily relatable. The writing itself is very well executed and easy to read, without slang. The moral was hidden pretty well though, as I recall. Excellent book nonetheless!
