'Sometimes to get what you want in life you have to be honest to yourself and ignore the ignorance and bigotry. If you're not out then it's going to be difficult to find love.'

This is a question that applies to homosexual men and women equally. There are several reasons why a homosexual would be in the closet. Those reasons could include fear of losing a job, being labeled an outcast or being shunned by family members, loss of friends, assault by heterosexual males usually between the ages of 15 and 30, lack of medical care(some medical practitioners will refuse to see a homosexual person), and loss of custody or visitation of children. Those are just a few of the reasons why somebody would remain in the closet. Only the person in the closet knows the reason/s why they are there.

I stay in the closet because I was hurt a lot in my teen years. It's a matter of self protection. Growing up I was called queer, ******, homo and other derogatory gay names. I enjoy playing the straight guy.

This happened because when I was 12, I was fooling around with an 11 year old boy. This 11 year old spread lies that I was coming on to him and he told everybody he did not respond. I just hope he was caught when he got older.

A few reasons I can think of -

1) Some people take longer to realize and come to terms with their natural sexual orientation than others. So they are "in the closet" until that time. This can take a lifetime for some people.

2) They may have jobs or family situations that make it a requirement.

3) They may be dependent on others for support.

just like strait people are not all looking for love some gay people arent looking for love either
they are more concerned about thier career ie money, power, prestiege

others are scared of being rejected, and others just dont see a reason to advertise that they are gay if they get what they need on the down low

im out, but i can understand why to go covert and have people look at you differently
