I have a laptop HP Pavilion and the D drive is not recognizing anything I put into it. It will sound like it is trying to read it, but its not reading any disk. I need to know how to make it work again.

I assume the D drive is the CD/DVD drive.

Most likely it'sgoing bad and you need to replace it.

See if you can update the driver for the drive (Go the manufacturers website and lookup your computer and find new drivers). If that doesn't work, than just invest in a new drive unless you still have a valid warranty. Either way, CD drives are very cheap and inexpensive now primarily because of new DVD and Blu-Ray drives.
