Most plumbers charge a fee for just coming to your house. Then they add for parts and labor. Ask the plumber how much he charges before you commit. A fair price would be $50 to show up and if it's a simple fix, I would allow another $50 for parts and labor. I could be more if it get complicated.

go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy a drain cleaner that contains either concentrated or virgin sulphuric acid. FlowEasy is one brand to look for. (that's what I buy from Lowe's) Follow the directions on the label exactly, this is strong stuff and can be dangerous if mis-used. Follow the directions and you'll have no problems. Cost, about $9 a quart. If this doesn't work, then call the plumber, just let him know you put a drain cleaner in the drain when he gets there.
