They HAVE the right to smack the taste out of your mouth if you cop an attitude like that. They also have the right to throw the freakin TV out the window if they so decide.

Maybe not if it's their first bad grade, and their still passing their class. I think you should take away television and other things if their failing any of their classes. If they make a bad grade, I would make them do the paper again, so they can learn how to do it better. Because if their in high school or middle school, at the end of the chapter in their book, they will have a test over it. So they might as well figure out how to do it now.

Television , Cell Phones, Computers, MP3 Players, Game Boys, these are all things my kids have and they are all thing they lose the privilege of using if they allow them to interfere with their school work. I don't expect 100% perfect grades, but they WILL do their best and if that means they need to spend extra time studying for a certain subject then they spend the time.

If you aren't getting good grades, of course your parents are going to give you a consequence. Your parents have the right to make decisions with your best interests in mind. Hit the books and stop worrying about what you're missing on tv. Maybe then you will earn it back.

Television, like all entertainment, is not a right but a privilege. Privileges can be given or earned but not demanded. If a kid isn't doing what they should, parents should take away privileges, including television.

Why should parents have to "deserve" the "right" to do what they please with the things they purchase? Television is not necessary to a child's survival, so watching it is a privilege, not a right. It's not like they're saying a kid may no longer eat.

If they have told you beforehand that the consequence of getting bad grades would be to take away the television, yes, I think it is certainly fair.

Parents can take away everything from a child except a roof over your head, adequate food, and adequate clean dry clothing. Adequate clothing can be generic clothing from salvation army, as long as it is clean and acceptable protection from the weather. anything you have above and beyond this is something you need to earn by good behavior and grades.

What matters is how hard you worked rather than your grade. If you can put your hand on your heart and say, "I worked as hard as I could. I never watched the television when I should have been working." Then no they shouldn't. But if you need to work harder then it seems a good idea to me.

Absolutely, school should be a students number one priority. If you do not meet the standards laid down by your parents, then it is completly reasonabled to be punished for bad grades.
