My two cents:

Bb. Pilipinas Universe is a good choice. Intelligence and wit counts in this contest. They also look into the beauty distinct to a country so Anna Licaros is a good choice.

Bb. Pilipinas Wordl is also a good choice. As mentioned, she does not look Filipina. She is half-Brit which could be a plus factor. Miss World is based in UK. She is also young. It seems this pageant goes for younger vivacious women. Being a VJ, is also a plus.

Bb. Pilipinas International is a question mark. If the pageant is held in Japan, those men wants very "model" type ladies. Look at Precious Lara Quigaman, she is the type a Japanese man would like to take home. Abi Cruz who has been a model her life and has that aura could have been a better choice.

My 2 cents: Bb. Pilipinas Universe is a sturdy determination. Intelligence and wit counts in this contest. additionally they inspect the sweetness distinctive to a rustic so Anna Licaros is a sturdy determination. Bb. Pilipinas Wordl is likewise a sturdy determination. As stated, she does not look Filipina. She is a million/2-Brit which would be a plus element. omit international relies in uk. She is likewise youthful. it style of feels this competition is going for youthful vivacious women persons. Being a VJ, is likewise a plus. Bb. Pilipinas worldwide is a question mark. If the competition is held in Japan, those adult adult males needs very "kind" form females. inspect priceless Lara Quigaman, she is the style a eastern guy might choose to take abode. Abi Cruz who has been a kind her existence and has that air of secrecy could have been a extra advantageous determination.

All the winners deserve the title. Margaret Wilson too deserve it and her being an actress has nothing to do with her winning, she has the talent, intellegent, figure and the poise! And for my analysis Bb. Universe is the top most title because Bb. International and World are just a fraction of the Universe.

Beauty contest is always a beauty contest...having Licaros to represent us in the Miss Universe will just end to a waste. She's intelligent but she's not joining a quiz bee. And to think that the venue would be Mexico, she'll just be wasted. And by today standard (based from the last seven miss universe) which predominantly have physically beautiful winners she will not manage to get it to the top. For Nadia Shami... I think she's the right choice...the taste of the Japanese. And Maggie Wilson as lutong macau... i think not...she's the best so far we have entered in the Miss World.

I humbly beg to disagree with you.

The Binibining Pilipinas winners are looking at Miss World very, very closely because it is the only beauty pageant we have not won. The odds are stacked against us; no contestant from the Far East has ever won Miss World. (Save for India, which hardly counts as an Oriental country, and a first-runner-up Miss Guam who became Miss World in the 70s when the winner defaulted.)

The closest we ever came to winning was with Evangeline Pascual (1st runner-up in the 70s, I think) and actress Ruffa Gutierrez (2nd runner-up, sometime in the mid-90s). If you recall the latter contest, we all thought Gutierrez would win, but she lost - to two black women (the winner was from Jamaica; the first runner-up was from South Africa, the host nation, in its first year of participation in the pageant). Beauty pageants are just as political as any other contest, and it helps to go into a beauty contest ready to meet that pageant's political and physical requirements.

If we are going to win Miss World, we need to field a contestant whose looks match those that are being searched for by Miss World judges, and Miss World history has not been kind to Orientals. The selection of Maggie Wilson was, in my opinion, a wise and strategic choice. Her features, while distinctly Filipina, contain Hispanic and Caucasian elements, features that appeal to the Miss World brand of beauty. (She actually looks like Gutierrez from certain angles.) At 5"9 1/2, she is relatively tall, and her being a VJ and actress is a plus for us, because we know that she knows how to communicate with the judges and project herself on television and film.

Licaros, meanwhile, is a brilliant choice for Miss Universe, possibly our best bet since Miriam Quiambao. She’s smart (summa *** laude in Broadcast Comm from UP Diliman!), she’s witty, and she has an exotic appeal that I think will play a big role when she competes for the Miss Universe crown this year. Apparently, she is a big overachiever, and I see no reason why Licaros can’t bring it on at the Miss Universe pageant.

Personally, the selection of Nadine Lee Cien Shami as Bb. Pilipinas - International was the only decision I found wanting. Shami is pretty, and her looks are very exotic, almost Indian in appeal, which may be a reason why they selected her for Miss International, which, based on previous winners, is known to have a fondness for thick eyebrows. LOL I would've preferred Nicole Schmit or even Ferniz Utatulum over Shami, and let's not get started on Liezel Verses, who reminds me of Hall of Shamer Perfida Limpin) or Abigail Cruz, who looks like a second-rate Carlene Aguilar.

If we want three ladies to represent the Philippines, I think this is pretty much a solid selection.
