I take it you mean the motor will not crank here? You have to be exact when asking questions as things are difficult enough to diagnose without looking at the truck. If that is the case, it is a simple matter of checking power and ground supplies to the starter. Be sure your battery conn. are clean and tight as well as the main and body grounds to the motor and the fender. Now get under the truck and check the main battery conn. at the starter for being clean and tight. Now check the starter solenoid conn. for the same thing. If all is still good, take a test light under and hook to a good ground. With your buddy turning the key, carefully touch both the main battery terminal at the starter and then the start solenoid conn. Both should light with the ignition cylinder in the start position. If not, chase back for the cause of an open circuit. It's probably poor connections inside the ignition switch in the column which would require complete disassembly and replace the switch and internal column wiring harness as it comes with the switch. Good luck.

Does the motor turn over or does it crank and not start? Two separate issues. If it does not turn over the solenoid could be bad on the starter or the battery has a poor ground or the terminals could be loose. If it spins over I've got a barn yard method of telling if your getting spark to your plugs. Using an inductive timing lite (sears) camp black wire to a clean ground The red clamp to a hot positive source. Clamp the large induction clamp around any spark wire. Holding the timing lite in your lap behind the steering wheel squeeze the trigger on the light and attempt to start your Tahoe. you should see flashing light in the lens of the lite immediately. If there's no flashing lite the module may be bad. If you have a steady flash have your fuel pressure read. The injection may need work.

I had a very similar problem and it turned out to be the ignition switch, not the tumbler, but the switch in the steering column.
