Family Guy may be too crude due to the TV-14 rating; and I don't recommend it. Instead, stick with The Simpsons. That show has a TV-PG rating, and it's not as crude as the aforementioned show.

Well, Family Guy is pretty much a rip-off of The Simpsons anyways, especially Peter's character: he's fat, crude, stupid, and lazy - he's really just an exaggerated version of Homer Simpson.

I was in grade school when the Simpsons first came out and I remember all the controversy around it. Well, now it is one of the longest running shows in television history and is recognized as a center for political-socio satire on television.

Family Guy, on the other hand, is just plain stupid sometimes. I can't say that I've never enjoyed Family Guy, but the writing quality simply isn't there. Most of the jokes on the show occur when Peter says "Oh, just like the time that I..." then he mentions some off-the-wall random thing he did and they show the animation of it. It's just poor quality writing and it simply doesn't measure up to the wit and satire of the Simpsons or even South Park.

So, to answer your question, I think you should let children watch the Simpsons because it really isn't that bad and is even pretty intelligent much of the time. Family Guy, on the other hand, is just plain stupid most of the time, and too crude for anyone under 13 or so.

You as the parent needs to ask that to your self!!! Do you want your kids growing up like degenerates or like a decent human being? The cartoons are made BY adults not kids and some of the things shouldn't be on TV anyway, I don't care how old you are, look at how society is regressing in mentality over the years!!! I have watched them all at least once, But I will never let my child watch them even with my supervision, if you watch it with them you are just backing up the fact it is ok to act that way!!! You as the parent should be the better role model and not let society guide that precious gift you have!! If you do, why not hand your kid off to a pedofile or a lab to be done with and rasied how they feel your child should be raised? I know what your answer is to that, so why let the TV be the parent?

The Simpsons is ok for pretty much any age group--though one could question the show's supposed hilarity.

I would say Family Guy is ok for kids 10 or 11 and up. If they're anything like the average child they've already been exposed to much more than is on the show. Kids are more mature than they're given credit for.

Family guy? Maybe. But definitely yes on the Simpsons, simply because the humor is based on making fun of people and situations that ARE funny and that we NEED to laugh at! A lot of the humor is based around current political or social issues, which I think makes a great discussion point between you and your kids.

i think Simpsons would be more reasonable as they are more subtle on that show than Family Guy is. Either way they wouldnt get a lot of the jokes.

It depends on their maturity and ability to understand the humor.

Certainly very young children should not be allowed to watch either show without a parent or older adult in the room with them.

You are the parent make this choice on your own. IF you feel they can watch them then let them. Watch a couple of episodes and see what you think, then make your decision.
