Like everyone else has stated, the California rolls are a good way to start. Don't jump right in to it, start small and work your way up. Start with the California rolls or Philadelphia roll (same as California roll, except as cream cheese). Also, the spicy shrimp rolls are good since the shrimp is cooked. It's hard to stomach sushi if you don't like fish, so I would start with something non-fishy then work your way up if you're willing.

I hated sushi, up until about a year ago. For a beginner, I would recommend starting with the "rolls". It's seaweed or spinach, with rice and other fillings (which range from seafood to veggies). Since you're not into fish, try the crab/lobster meat (not my favorites, but good nonetheless). You can always go with option number two, which is veggie sushi rolls. Depending on what kind you get, the inside varies anywhere from cucumber, to olive, to avocado.

Experiment with it a bit, and see what's to your liking. I did eat the fish sushi, but I have taken on a vegetarian diet since then. It is quite delicious, depending on the fish you choose. Good luck, and make sure you know what you're eating before eating it.

You say you are not a big fish does that include crab and shrimp?

If so,

You will want to try any Veggie Combination, Avacado & Cucumber is pretty good.

A California roll is pretty harmless same as above with imitation crab (some places will use real crab) the crab in either case is NOT raw.

Most fish sushi is raw.

If you are looking for a mild sushi to try I would recommend a California role or an Avocado roll.

A California roll contains cucumber, avocado, and imitation crab stick (white fish colored to look like crap legs), and is usually encased in a layer of rice sprinkled with seaseme seeds. This roll is like a begginer's sushi roll. It is not very large and does not contain large amounts of raw fish.

An avocado roll is basically in the name; it is avocado and japanese mayonaise (like regular mayonaise with a hint of vinegar) surrounded by sushi rice. It is a very small roll so it is easier to consume in one bite than a large piece of nigiri (raw fice on top of sushi rice).

Try those two rolls on your first try. Thats how I started when I first tried sushi. Just remember, don't use too much wasabi.

Sushi Rocks! you will like it. What i could recommend could be to confirm a good Sushi eating place and basically bypass in, clarify which you have on no account attempted it in the previous and spot what they recommend. attempt a variety of somewhat some issues. It won't take long 'til you locate some favourites. BTW: pay attention for the wasabi paste, it fairly is rather spiced!! :)

If you've never tried sushi, and you don't like fish, there are many other choices you could try. There are avacado, carrot, celery, and other types of vegetable celery. If you like those, you can feel free to try ones with cooked fish, and then maybe raw! Just take it a few steps at a time.

Good luck!

Sushi doesn't mean that its made out of fish entirely. There are plenty of other sushi types like California rolls, spider rolls, philiadelphia roll. Those dont' have fish.

Well, not all sushi is raw...so I'd try crab or lobster sushi first. Steer clear of eel. It's too fishy tasting for someone who doesn't like fish.

I'd go with Maguro, it's uncooked tuna and has a very delicate taste. It's not going to taste like Chicken of the Sea, but also won't leave you with fish breath. It also has a relatively firm texture, which is a little slimy but at least tolerable.

Or you can ask for Tamago, which is just a piece of scrambled egg on top of the rice.

Enjoy!
