The tanning bed is more harmul. You can do skin damage due the heat from the lamps, not just the UV rays. If you do suntan, do it naturally and don't bake your skin. Keep your skin cool.

They are both very harmful. I dont want to sound preachy, but I used to tan all the time (in the sun and in tanning beds) and last year I had to have 5 precancerous lesions taken off of both my stomach and my back. I am only 25. I regret that I ever tanned, because every time I go back to the dermatologist I am afraid to hear him tell me I have melanoma.Which has a survival rate of about 14%. Dont bake in the sun. It is not worth it.

They are about the same. When your skin shows tan (when that isn't your natural color) it is a sign of damage. As a young teenager in the 50s, I used to tan. Even though I did it what was then called the safe way. Laid out at first for 5 min. per side. Then upped it to 10 min. per side & on up to a 15 min.per side. I tan easily due to my cherokee heritage.Sun damage is cumulative. Now that I am older, I have these ugly "age" spots on my arms & legs. My husband who was very blond & fair, developed melanoma in his mid yrs. & lost the top 1/2 of his ear. Now I carry a large umbrella to shade me from the sun & plent of sun-block. Please don't do this. It really is dangerous whether from a sun bed or the sun itself. If you don't believe me, check with the Dr.

I agree with pathinde. Both are not good for you. The sun has benefits of helping your body produce Vitamin D, however to go tanning, forget about tanning. To lay out in that sun, or using a tanning bed, both are equal in detriment to your body, including your skin. It causes the elasticity of your skin to diminish, and causes wrinkling early in your life.

No, either way, your body is roasted much like the Thanksgiving Day turkey. This is not meant to be a joke. Ask any doctor.
