and by tools i mean things you can buy at lowes, it is for a team project and we need the name of a superhero that uses tools you can actually buy at the store, ie. hammers, etc.

Thor (Marvel Comics) uses a hammer that looks like a sledge.

However, it has some sort of supernatural powers, including automatically returning to Thor when he throws it.

I think the problem you're going to have here is that many of the tools used by superheroes can't be bought at places like Home Depot because these tools all have special abilities of their own.

Good luck with this. It'll be interesting to see what other kinds of answers you get.

Take care,

FOLLOWUP: I see that Roger N has added Wonder Woman and Batman to the list.

Wonder Woman is an example of what I was talking about. Her rope had the magical power of forcing people to tell the truth when she threw a lasso over them.

Batman, on the other hand, may have the types of tools you're looking for. He is strictly human with human tools, albeit specially developed for his use. The trick with him will be to find a tool that's generic, i.e. not made just for him.

Hey, how about cable? When he throws one of those little Bat-wings up to a roof to hook on something, he then climbs a cable attached to the Bat-wing. The cable has to be something you could buy at a hardware store. Nothing special is needed there.

If I can think of anything else, I'll write more followups. This question is neat.

FOLLOWUP 2: How about The Green Arrow? Most of his arrows and bows are custom made, but he has a huge arsenal of all sorts of longbows, crossbows, etc. At least a few of them must be something you can buy in the hunting section of Wal-Mart, or maybe use components that are also generic.

As long as whoever is managing this project is not too picky, you might get away with something there.

FOLLOWUP 3: The Silver Surfer uses a surfboard. Obviously it doesn't act like your average board, but I suppose you could suggest that he starts with a standard board and uses his powers to enable it to do whatever it does. Such a board you could certainly buy in a sporting goods store on the West Coast.

A long while ago I listed out all the heroes who did not have super powers but used weapons of one sort or another; you can search through my old best answers and find that list if you want.

I included some like Captain America, who does not need to use his adamantium shield, he could get by with an ordinary steel shield, because he has the skill and practice to throw it around.

It really is too bad we can’t buy Iron man’s armor or Green lantern’s ring at the hardware store, isn’t it!

Awe man! I was all set to answer Reed Richards, and Batman, then you had to mention Lowes. Well, I suppose that there is one mutant who specialises in making devices. He must use tools, though he may invent some as he goes along. I'm sure he must have used an Allen Wrench or needle nosed pliers, perhaps wire cutters at some point. Yeah, that's the ticket, it's Forge.

I think Big Al covered most of them

I would add Steel who uses a hammer, like Thor but without the magic ut with hi-tech

Bullseye (a villain but with the Thunderbolts now so maybe a hero?) uses anything he can get his hands on from paper clips to playing cards and screwdrivers

Trunks from DBZ uses a sword as well as his powers. You can get fancy expensive metal swords , but if for costume purposes a kiddies plastic one can be found.
