Try just pouring some 'baking soda' into the garbage disposal every day ... about a tablespoon full to start, up to a quarter of a cup ... run cold water down after it 'sits' for a minute or two and 'run' the garbage disposal while you are 'rinsing it away.' Another thing you can do is to grind up some lemon peels or orange peels, both of which will help 'clear' the odors and leave a 'good smell' behind for awhile. But if the disposal really 'stinks' and you can 'smell it' without having to put your nose 'in the sink' then you may need to call a 'disposal repair person' to come and 'fix it' or get a new one ... sometimes they're just too 'icky' to fix so that they 'smell good' again ....

All of the ideas that are given from lemons to ice to coffee and store bought products do work for a lil bit, sewer gas is a concern but if it is actually the disposal that stinks, I'll let you in on a secret that I never see posted. The black rubber "flapper" or whatever the name of it. It's the rubber seal that keeps you from from seeing in there, or from food flying back out. These things get a layer of "slime" on the under side that smells like death. Most of them that I have ran across just pull out and wedge back in. I'd wear gloves because you are not going to believe how gross it is. Anyhow pull it up and out. Wash it with hot water and bleach. If you can stand the thought of it you can put it in the dishwasher. Most people don't know that these can be removed and washed. All good ideas that people posted but I promise you that if your disposal still stinks after the lemon trick then you need to "de-slime" the underside of the rubber guard. Good Luck Hope this helps!!

Pour 1 cup of vinegar down the flush it with hot water, Then take baking soda and pour1/2 cup and use with hot water, that will fizz up and clean and make it smell good. Vinegar is a odor eater.

Dump some baking soda in it. You may have to let it set a while and do a second application for stubborn odors.
