Someone gave me one and I don't know what to do with it.

Plug it in to the power and your wired network. Then configure it (which usually involves pointing a web browser at http://192.168.0.1 but may vary depending on the device and if that ip is already in use). You'll probably need a password, default passwords for many different routers are available online and can be found with a search engine (include the make and model of the device in the search). You may have to perform a hard reset on the box (probably by pressing a tiny button for 10-30 seconds). Then configure any computers you have with wireless network connections to talk to the newly set up router (the specifics depend on the device).

Once installed, you can then access the network using wireless devices.
