I'm sure one will, sooner or later.

A presidential candidate either needs broad-based appeal to all people, or have a extremely staunch and loyal majority, or have a team of insiders who can rig elections (as per 2000 and 2004).

For a Latino/Latina to be elected president, there needs to be a leader whose message resonates with hundreds of millions of people.

I would welcome a Latino/a president and I am White. We live in a world where individuals feel threatened by cultural solidarity and perhaps that is the backlash that some Latinos feel from Whites. However, just as any Latino/a would not want to be judged as a "mass" of people, Whites should not be either...

It is American law that the president must be born within the United States. So if you were born here, why not go for it? The only way to change the system is to change the system, right?

To the guy above me Bill Richardson is not going to win, Hillary or Obama will.
But anyway the reason there has not been a latino president is because you wont do it. Just because America is supposed to be equal opportunity doesn't mean that we can all get it at the same time. You have been here for 8 years and you are already demanding sufferage. I have been here all my life and there is yet to be a black president (except Clinton lol) but the point is that there is a lot of sufferage to go around and the least of which belongs to the latinos who just recently began migrating in hoards to the USA. It is not about find a latino president, or even a black one for that matter. it is about find one who will be a good leader for the country and will be a leader for all races. In order for there to be change we need to take it a step at a time. So basically hold on, keep moving, but WAIT YOUR TURN!

As long as you are an honest, hard working person that is doing the best you can in life...I don't care if you're friggin' yellow and purple striped. People that merely look at your skin color and think you...suck or whatever...are morons. Anyway with the demographic shift currently making Hispanics one of the largest demographics in the country, I can certainly see a Latino/a president in the near future.

A latino could be president -- he'd have to be a citizen, born in the USA, and over 35 years old.
Judging by the last few elections, it'd help if he were Republican too.

People who run for President of the US must have been born in the US. That is why Arnold Schwarzenager or Bobby Jindal will not be able to be President unless the law is changed.

Bill Richardson, who is Latino, is expected to run for President of the US in 2008.

Of course, he was born in the US.

A Latino could be president if he/she was born here and the public voted for them

As long as people continue to isolate themselves by race/sex it'll be extremely difficult to see a non-male WASP as president. BTW, you're required to be a natural-born citizen to qualify for the presidency.

You must be born in America to become president. There are other qualifications as well. It's all in the Constitution.
