Sure thing! I'd be happy to help you with this!!

Okay, first off we have:
8(n-3)=2n+18
easy, no?

well first we do whats called " distributive"

we take 8(n-3)
and multiply both the n and the -3 by 8
or....
8n - 24

now our entire problem looks like this:
8n - 24 = 2n + 18

now we are going to "combine like terms"
or....
8n - 24 = 2n +18
+24 +24
-----------------------
8n = 2n + 42

OKAY! i understand if you didn't get that
simply, YOU MUST ADD APPLES WITH APPLES
lol sorry, that sounds kinda stupid, but its how its done
so, since we cannot add whole numbers (-24, 18) with variables (8n, 2n) we add together what we can, which is variables with variables and whole numbers with wholes numbers. In order to get a number with another of its type, you must add it to the other number if the number moving is negative, and vice versa

alrighty then, now that that's all done, time to solve this
8n= 2n + 42
-2n -2n
------------------
6n= 42
n = 7

Done! your variable, n, is equivalent to 7.
how i got that part was that same as the whole numbers, i subtrated the 2n from 8n, as they were both postive, and there has to always be somthing on each side of the equals sign. after that i simply divided 42 by 6. easy, no?? if u ever run across a problem where the number opposite of the varible (42 in this case) is not divisable by the other number (6) then you put them in a fraction and simplify until they are at the smallest fraction possible, like 1/2, or 3/4.

Hope that helped!! if you have any other questions, email me up at groovedog13@gmail.com
your welcome! =)

1. figure out the distributive property- so it would be 8n - 8*3=2n+18
2. Get rid of the 2n on the right side so that you dont end up with negative variables. Then it'll be 8n-24-2n=2n+18-2n
3. 6n-24=18
4. Get rid of the -24 by adding 24. The Equation will then be 6n-24+24=18+24
5. Finally the equation is 6n=42; divide each side by 6 to get rid n by itself
6. n=7
7. Also remember to do the check to make sure it works.

please take the time to go through it yourself and understand it, instead of copying my answer

8(n-3)=2n+18

1. Distribute the 8.
8n-24=2n+18

2. Get all of the 'n's on one side, and same with the integers.
8n-24=2n+18
-2n -2n
6n-24=18
+24 +24
6n=42

3. To isolate the 'n', divide both sides by the coefficient, 6.
6n=42
/6 /6
n=7

ANSWER-
n=7

Hope this helped!

I think this is the answer, but i am only in 5 grade. 8-3(just came up with 3 because 8-3=5which could do 5-3=2+18=20. So what you do is 8-3=5 (which is N)-3=2+18+20. There is your answer.

OK, multiply 8 times n and 8 times -3
Now subtract 2n from both sides of the equation. Now add 8 times -3 to both sides of the equation
Now divide the whole number by the number in front of the n.

This is how you do it sweetie

8(n-3)=2n+18

=8n-24(8*3)=2n+18
=8n-2n=18+24
Thus
6n/6=42/6
n=7

Substitute for n to check your answer
8(7-3)=2(7)+18
8*4=14+18
32=32
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to get all your n values to one side of the equation. Let's take this step by step.

First of all, use the distributive property to rewrite the left-hand side of the equation. [Distributive property: a(b-c) = ab - ac] The result of this step is:

8n - 24 = 2n + 18

Next, get all your variables (n values) to one side and constants to the other. We'll do this in two steps. First, subtract 2n from both sides:

8n - 24 - 2n = 2n + 18 - 2n

and combine like terms to get:

6n - 24 = 18

Now, add 24 to both sides:

6n - 24 + 24 = 18 + 24

and combine like terms to get:

6n = 42

Finally, divide both sides by 6 to isolate the variable (get n by itself):

6n/6 = 42/6

which, simplified, means

n = 7

I hope this helps!

8(n-3)=2n+18
multiply 8 by n and -3
8n-24=2n+18
add 24 to both sides
8n=2n=42
subtract 2n from both sides
6n=42
divide both sides by 6
n=7
