while they can form anywhere if the right conditions occur they typically occur during the winter months dec-mar. (mostly common jan and feb) in the northern areas of the US normally.
typically the mid-west states as well as the north east, including the mid-Atlantic states. but they have happened south of Washington DC.

i live in a state that has snow from sometimes in sep to sometimes in may. in the mts it can do that from aug to june. pretty nuch get map of the us fold it and anything in the middle and northward have snow and it blizzards and snow can fall between on avg nov to late spring.
