I don't believe they are trying to "redefine". I believe they are trying to help us understand why they are who they are, so that people will not have phobias towards them.

Interesting question. Early on people might have believed that prejudice against homosexuals was rooted in a fear that homosexuals might be rapists, but I don't think even the most bigoted people really believe this anymore. Heterosexism seems to be a better term than homophobia, because like the term sexism, it simply implies that there is some prejudice there, without further implying that it stems from fear.

Simply so they can fit in and not be considered "gay" anymore. You know, just another citizen without a label.

People who choose to do something that isn't socially acceptable will always try to manipulate.

I have been informed many self-proclaimed ______dream that people fear them. Now look how many labels you could insert into that sentence...doesn't make it real.
