What can I do with my BSN degree? Leaving the nursing field?

I have been an RN for over 15 years, and I have burnt out! I am ready for a career change. What field will accept me with a BSN degree? I can't type, so I guess office work is out for me. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Wow, don't blame you for burning out after 15 years in that field! I know a couple others who have burned out and moved on.

You'll take quite a pay cut when you move on to another job. Do you think being the Director of Nursing at a "home" would be too stressful? If not, you could put you skills to good use there. Do you like sales? You would make a good sales rep for a pharaceutical company if you have the personality for it.

If I were you, I'd search high and low for something that would use my skills, experience and education directly rather than starting over in another field. Good Luck!

This is exactly why I tell new grads or nursing students to forego the BSN and MSN route. Why declare yourself a nurse three different ways, not to mention what do you do if you lose your nursing licence?

Here's my advice. Change your nursing field. How about working for a corporation as an industrial nurse, or occupational nurse. Or get into the Safety field. I hated nursing for 8 years until the nursing job of my dreams found ME. Now I recommend for people to get into the field, there are only several HUNDRED different things you can do with an RN license which DON'T INCLUDE working in a hospital.

Check out the back of any nursing magazine rag and use your imagination. Work for a cruise line, work for a nurse recruiting firm, so you can stay at home. Do you know how many nurse recruiters for travel agencies are just folks off the street? At least you know the field, you'd be a great recruiter.

Now if you have a hot bod and a great a$$, you can always get into stripping. (that's always a great way to make money from what I've been told)

There are many areas outside of nursing that could use your experience and your knowledge. Maybe you should really consider where your passion is and find an area, either in a new job or a new business, that will allow you to not only enjoy what you are doing, but also provide you with a nice compensation.

Burnout occurs in all areas and your potential, I'm sure, extends far beyond nursing. Best wishes on your search...

There's a new business in my town called "my nurse advocate". I think they help people negotiate with insurance companies.I also read an article that said there is a huge demand for nurses who can teach the incoming classes of nurses. Maybe you would like teaching at the college level, most of the students are more mature and want to learn, as opposed to high school or elementary school.

Have you been in a hospital setting? You might want to try Hospice care or home health care for a change, even as a chaplain or some other aspect of the field. Also look into elder social work, working with the elderly who need assistance with daily activities. I think the possibilities are endless.

You could become a case nurse for an insurance company. They come and talk with the doctors and forward the information from the doctor to the case manager.

You could also look into becoming a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company.

Join Nursing Training or Recruiting Agency in your area, if it suit your temperament.
