He is a very good actor - He WAS (IS?) Derek Trotter - And played that part brilliantly - more recently he's done 'a touch of frost' - Which I really like - But if you think of the stuff he did years ago - Like Open All Hours and Porridge - He was brilliant in them too. You cant really fault him - hes just a great comedy character actor. Im sure there alot of stuff he's done I dont even know about.

I think he is a fantastic actor not as a comedian but as a serious actor.
I thought he was very good and serious as Detective Inspector Jack Frost in the drama series 'A Touch of Frost'.
For those who are not familiar with the series. 'A Touch of Frost' is a detective television series produced by Yorkshire Television for ITV in the United Kingdom.

I liked him in The Darling Buds of May & A Bit of a Do but not in anything with a serious side to it. He has neither the face nor the talent to be a serious actor. He is better hamming it up a bit in lightweight comedies.

He was great in only fools and horses but i dont rate him as a serious actor.
