If I were doing the interviewing I would ask about recent"events" that could be loosely described as societal (but not necessarily social work), what was the students' initial reaction and did they agree with the final outcome.
Examples:-
1) "Adoptive parents" have recently been cleared of feeding their adoptive child large amounts of salt. (I would expect you to know how and why this action would kill a child). What do you think you would do as the social worker in charge of the case; it will not wash if you say I don't know I'm not a social worker yet. You will be expected to have read up on your chosen profession.
2) Racial discrimination;
3) Bullying -
and if both these facets of society exist in social work, how are decisions made and are these decisions "safe"?
Read the "good" newspapers - used to be the broadsheets, and look for societal trends and think what would you do if you were the social worker of this family.

Having been through the same interview last year my advise is to understand about oppression and anti discrimination, they asked me my views on this. Just stay calm and be yourself though. They like to know that you have some life experience but if you don't have experience you have nothing to worry about as they may see suitable traits in you and that is all you need. Don't panic you will be fine.

im a first year student. You should state that you will uphold the GSCC and BASW codes of practice, and that your personal values will not override these.
That you want to try and make a difference to dis advanntaged and social excluded groups (often as a result of poverty).
You must say that you want to work in PARTNERSHIP with service users whilst EMPOWERING them.
you mst act in anti oppressive, anti discriminatory practice.
