Deceiving yourself. Talking yourself into believing something that isn't true.
For example, if you drink every day and night and can't function without alcohol, telling yourself that "you don't have a problem" is fooling yourself.

That you're trying to convince yourself that something is not....
For example...if you're attitude towards others is nasty, but you think you're being completely normal and rational....you're only fooling yourself because everyone else can see the truth.
Or if your husband is cheating on you, you've got all of the facts in front of you but you still deny it...you're only fooling yourself.

brainwashing yourself
its like saying that drugs (illegal kind) are good for you and has no bad side affects, if you are an addict
or you smoke a pack a day and refuse to believe that you are a smoker
or perhaps when you like someone, but your friend likes the same person, so you tell youself you don't like them until you actually think you don't
