Drink a LOT of fluids, and generally keep your meals light, and dairy-free. (Dairy will aggravate any mucus problems.) Have some hot coffee or tea. If you have a sore throat, or want a medicinal tea that will assist in cleaning out your system, try "Throat Coat" Tea by Traditional Medicines, and "Everyday Detox." Some people don't care for the taste, but I like it. I am so sorry you have all those papers and exams to do - flus always come at the worst time, and the flu shots never can prevent all of them. Sending "feel better" vibes your way!! (I just got over five weeks of one sickness after another - new job around a lot of kids - immune systems love that!)

People with the flu are advised to get plenty of rest, drink a lot of liquids, avoid using alcohol and tobacco and, if necessary, take medications such as paracetamol (acetaminophen) to relieve the fever and muscle aches associated with the flu. Children and teenagers with flu symptoms (particularly fever) should avoid taking aspirin during an influenza infection (especially influenza type B) because doing so can lead to Reye's syndrome, a rare but potentially fatal disease of the liver.[76] Since influenza is caused by a virus, antibiotics have no effect on the infection; unless prescribed for secondary infections such as bacterial pneumonia, they may lead to resistant bacteria. Antiviral medication is sometimes effective, but viruses can develop resistance to the standard antiviral drugs.

The two classes of anti-virals are neuraminidase inhibitors and M2 inhibitors (adamantane derivatives). Neuraminidase inhibitors are currently preferred for flu virus infections. The CDC recommended against using M2 inhibitors during the 2005–06 influenza season.

Take over the counter medication such as bechams cold and flu or lempsip to prevent the virus from spreading. If you are very serious about not getting a flu I suggest you take some anti-biotics although it people might think its not wise as it gradually affects you negatively because when you really need anti-biotics the virus will not be affected by the antibiotics as the virus becomes immune to them...

Poor baby. That is miserable. Get some chicken soup. Homemade is best, but canned will suffice. Lots of fluids. Get some sinus pills that have ONLY psuedophedrin in them because Dayquil already has fever reducers and pain relievers. Psuedophedrin is for stuffiness in your head. I don't know what else to tell you except go to the doctor. He'll tell you to get lots of rest, which you should if it were possible.

Elderberry extract, also available in the prepared product Sambucol, has been shown to reduce flu symptoms in a number of well designed studies. Good luck on your exams and I hope you feel better soon!

Flu or colds are caused by viruses. That means that antibiotics can't help them unless they turn into bacterial infections. So mainly you should be happy to make it through the next week of discomfort as long as it doesn't turn into a bacterial infection. The worst case bacterial infection would be pneumonia, so after a week or so, make sure your lungs are not showing any signs of pneumonia. Then you would want to get to a doctor right away to get an antibiotic prescribed. http://www.webmd.com

Try drinking some hot tea to help clear your head a little. Honey and lemon is very soothing. You can actually go to the doctor and get an antiobiotic for the flu now. It is supposed to help you feel better much faster. Go now! I suffered mine out for 4 weeks.

Take some echinaecea and don't eat/drink anything dairy (it builds up mucous, which is why you're stuffy). Have a little bit of fruit or vegetables, nothing too flavorful (no sugar or salt). After you're done doing your homework, definately wrap up in a blanket and sleep a while!
