i do not have much of an accent but i noticed something at my school. why in my school are all the other races so hostile towards white people even if they did nothing,
for example, the african descent people will walk by any 'white' people and make very loud remarks or jokes, and the white people say nothing.
the white people do not seem to be mean to the other races. america has many races. in my country we had mostly one race but of course minorities but they were citizens and our brothers!
why is my school like this?, (and i have been told by i do not know as a joke by some 'black' people that they do not see me as white because my accent makes me foreign and nice? although i am european descent. please help to understand why this is, and if this is in your school too?,

P.S. I never thought of America like this in my country

and no to that girl, i am not a 'bitter white person trying to stir up' bad feelings. im from germany, and am polish, danish, and am german, that was a very rude comment.

why did someone say 'black people sometimes may be racist because they do not think they are 'black' enough if they do not? i do not completely understand this.

but thank you all so far. and yes of course there was racism where i used to live.

It is unfortunate that people, especially kids, treat those who are different from them with less respect. And if people are racist, it is b/c they were taught to be that way by their parents and peers. Some white people are racist, but then so are some black people. I've also noticed that some black people are racist w/i that if someone who is black is not black enough.

It's very simple really. Very bad things happened to black people when they first were brought to this country. Sadly because of how other people brought them here and presented them, a mindset was formed. People lived in this mindset that black people were less than them for generations, and many still do. Eventually they gained the freedoms they truly deserve in what is now their country as well.

However, many black people don't consider America their country, they save that for Africa, though they have never stepped foot on it's soil. Many also still hold deep cuts from what was done to their ancestors. Along with this, far too many others still believe that black people deserve to be treated anyway seen fit.

The simple version is that many black people are still angry for what happened during slavery and for the ways some racist people treat them. Sadly though some are becoming racist themselves because they are growing to hate white people and blame white people for their troubles simple because of skin color. Some white people are still very racist and treat others in terrible ways. However plenty of us really don't care about skin color and just want to see our country come together for the first time ever.

I was so hopeful after September 11th because in the aftermath people seemed to stop thinking for awhile about black and white. Everyone had that grey ash covering them and skin didn't matter as much as it used to. I hate what happened, and I'm glad people moved on, but I was so sad when that ash washed away.

What you perceived in your country of America was just that: a perception.

America has many issues when it comes to "race" and social groups. I say "race" because it is not biological but rather a social construct - we all place others in categories as well as placing ourselves in categories. Many of us have multiple identities as well...

In regards to "black" and "white" in America, this country has a very long and troubled history when it comes to "black" and "white". In our history, African-Americans were brought to America as slaves. Most slaves were abused and degraded. After emancipation, there was a social stigma against African-Americans that has lasted into the 21st Century. Another significant time in America's history was the Civil Right's movement in the 1960s. Up until then, "blacks" and "whites" were separated by laws such as the segregation of each in schools, on buses, at water fountains, etc.

American history will tell you a lot about what is going on "race"-wise in America. Many minorities have felt this separation, including many Latinos and Asians today. The best we can all do is to make informed decisions not based upon superficial judgements, keep learning and respect one another. I encourage you to keep this discussion going, whether at home, in your school or on forums such as these!

I don't believe you. I think you're some bitter white person trying to stir up stuff. Oh yeah and I'm also a white person so you can't use that "jealous minority" argument or whatever crap I know you want to say to me right now.

Because racism isn't practiced only by whites. It can be a hate crime for whites to say racist remarks, but not other races against whites. If they're singled out for making racist remarks it's because whites are racist. If they gang up on whitey and kick his teeth in it's because whitey is racist.
