My CD-ROM is having trouble reading my c.d.s. Each time I insert a disc, a window pops up and reads "please insert cd and try again". This happens each time I try to get my CD-ROM to detect files on my CDs. Any advice? I think it might be a hardware problem, such as a spring, but I'm not sure..anyone with advice?

My guess is that the drive needs to be replaced. However, one thing you can try is this:
Right click on "My Computer", then click on "Properties". At that point, click on the "Hardware" tab and then click on "Device Manager". Once you've got the listings of your hardware showing, find the CD drive and right click on that drive's listing. Of the choices shown, click on "Uninstall". Once that's done, reboot the computer. Windows should see the CD drive as "new hardware" and reinstall the driver for it again. If the driver was corrupted prior to this, the new installation should fix the driver. Then try reading a factory CD. If it works, then problem solved. If not, you can try one of those disc cleaner discs, but I wouldn't count on that working, and a new drive will probably be needed. Hope this helps.
