Dear Yanks: Here's a brief synopsis of PT 109.
Young lieutenant from Boston takes command of patrol torpedo boat in Solomon Islands during WWII.
During night patrol, boat is rammed by Japanese destroyer and split in two.
Young LT rescues crew, including pulling crew member along with strap in LT's mouth to safety thru shark- and enemy-infested waters.
Carves rescue plea into coconut and has local island fisherman deliver to USN command.
Crew is rescued and LT is honored for saving crew.
LT's back never the same after ordeal.
LT returns to Boston after war and become congressman, then senator and finally president, based on war heroics.
Funny, when other young LT's got boat sunk, they were cashiered from command and not declared a hero.

Hope this helps.

Seems your "search" button has died?

Not that would be an obstacle to locating material on "JFK" and
his WWII experiences.

Most video stores have the movie "PT 109" with Cliff Robertson.

If you look real close in a few scenes I am in the movie, no bs,
it was filmed on 1960's PT Boats around Key West, Florida at the Naval Station and nearby keys (islands), JFK wanted the book and the movie to be "youth" friendly.

So he only asked the the stories be limited to the basic facts and not the nature of the war but the courage of his crew and fellow sailors.

You should read it, learn, also note that his older brother was killed in WWII in Europe flying. He was injured, seriously.

But hey, it is 2007 and we have no such men.
