now that my wife found out the name means "weary," she's having second thoughts. Any suggestions of other girl names, preferably ending in "a" or "ah?" Your input would be appreciated.

"The girl's name Leah \leah\ is pronounced LEE-ah. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "delicate; weary". Biblical: Jacob's first wife, the mother of Dinah and six of Jacob's twelve sons. The name was revived by the Puritans. Léa is popular in France."

I don't see why a meaning should stop you naming your child something, because people don't judge you based on the meaning of your name! Besides, to have your name mean "delicate" if not weary is quite pretty. :)

You could always use Variant forms for different meaning?
Lea: The boy's and girl's name Lea \lea\ is pronounced LAY-ah, LEE-ah. It is of Hawaiian origin. Mythology: the goddess of canoe makers.
Leeya: The girl's name Leeya \le(e)-ya\ is a variant of Lia and Liya.
(Lia: The girl's name Lia \lia\ is pronounced LEE-ah. It is of Latin origin. Short form of names like Amelia, Rosalia, and Evangelia "bringer of the gospel".
Liya: The girl's name Liya \li-ya\ is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "I am the Lord's".)

Anyway, I don't think personally that there's that much need to stray from your original choice of name, but I wish you the best in choosing, and congratulations. :)

Why don't you use the name Lia. I looked it up and this is the info I found:

The girl's name Lia \lia\ is pronounced LEE-ah. It is of Latin origin. Short form of names like Amelia, Rosalia, and Evangelia "bringer of the gospel". Used as an independent name in Italy. See also Lea and Leah. Writer Lia Matera.

Prounced the same and the spelling is adorable. Different meaning. :)

The meaning of Leah isn't exactly bad. It is written delicate; weary. If you add delicate everything seems nice and graceful. :)

How about Aaliyah. Same sound but a little different. I think it is very cute. Here is the info on that name:

The girl's name Aliyah \a-li-yah\ is pronounced AH-lee-ah, ah-LEE-ah. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "rising, ascending". Late singer Aaliyah.

I also like Kyla, Maya, Savannah, Hannah, Eliana, Elaina, Isabella, Sophia, & Martina.

You could use: Ashlea or Leila (Layla). Very similiar to Leah. Also Mia rhymes with Lea and it is really cute.

Oh, and don't forget Leia. Adorable name. Similiar spelling. Very cute name. :)

I would go with Lia, Aliyah, or Leia or Leila. And I love Mia!

Take Care and Good Luck! SD

You could name her MaLeah (MaLia, MaLea), which means "Calm and Peaceful". Or Leeanna, which is like Leah, but a little more, which is a combination of Lee and Anna, so it pretty much means "Joy, Gracious, and Merciful". Just be creative in everything. You can always find an alternative that is close to, or sounds the same as, Leah.

Good Luck with naming your child, and raising her!!!!

She can still name her after her grandmother. Like maybe adding something to the beginning. Some examples: Jaleah, Taleah, Maleah, and Kaleah. Also adding something to the end. Some examples: Leahja and Leana.

www.babynamesworld.com got plenty of names that end in "a" and "ah" so check that site out too.
