It is where sexism, or any other prejudice, is built in to the system.
Doctors are male, nurses are female - for example.
We can't promote her, she's a woman, and she'll just go off and have babies.

When a government or institution puts forth certain policies and/or procedures that promulgate sexism. For example, denying a woman the right to vote would be institutional sexism.

Sexism that exists at the institutional level. When something is "institutionalized" it means that it exists in the foundational cultures of an area- the churches, the schools, the social clubs.
It can also be used, specifically, to refer to sexism in an institution, like a prison, asylum, etc.
Since that's all the info you gave, the first def is probably the one you want.

you assume that women are not tough, brave, or courageous. That is a pity, because you're losing out on some fine personnel that might even outrun some of the men you have working for you. I hire women on trial, and let them know they have to be as good as (to me-better) the men they will work alongside, in order to keep their job, and get paycheck. many bail out before going for trial, but those that do, surprise me, and i mean, really surprise the guys they're pitted against. In the end, any woman passing selection has gained the respect of the men she will be working with, she will be tough, brave, and courageous, to the bitter end. If a woman puts in the work, and has the bollox and guts, give her the chance, unless you're scared she'll out-do you. i find a lot of men left in macho jobs too long without challenge get a shitty attitude, and become lazy at it. A woman can keep those guys on their toes, because she feels the need to keep her mark up all the time.

A silly phrase invented by somebody who thinks too much.
Probably the idea that some institutions like the military or hospitals have sexist traditions.

Microsoft. I own Microsoft and I won't hire any woman whose breasts are a c cup or under. I won't allow women to become onsite managers. Women in my company cannot hope to be ceo, cfos, president...its when the powers that be implements sexist, racist, religious ways to hinder you.
