Hi. My husband and I are trying to have a baby. I just came off of hormone therapy (progesterone) becuase my levels were all screwed up and were causing me to not have a period. I went 5 whole months (YAY!) without one, and now I have had it for 9 days already and still going. I started keeping a record of my temp with a tympanic thermometer today, but I need some help figuring out how to use it! lol. Any suggestions on this and other ways to figure out if im ovulating would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Charting you BBT is a great way to help confirm ovulation and detect some other cycle issues. As soon as you stop bleeding, you also want to start charting your cervical fluid so you know when you are fertile before ovulation.

You NEED a BASAL thermometer to track your BBT. A tympanic thermometer is just not reliable enough for the little changes in your BBT which track your fertility. Even a regular digital thermometer is not accurate enough. Basal thermometers are usally available at pharmacies and drug stores. They are fairly inexpensive. BD is the best brand that I know of.

To take your BBT, you should take it at the same waking time every morning. An hour or so difference is usually okay, but the temp has to be adjusted to compensate. You need to take it on the same side of your mouth every day as alternating can affect your temperature treatings. You need to take your temp after 3 consecutive hours of sleep and try to keep your room temperature and sleeping conditions stable.

I highly recommend charting your fertility signs. Your chart can tell you when you are fertile, when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Your chart can also tell you if there are issues delaying conception or causing difficulty w/ carrying a pregnancy and if there are serious issues which need a doc's attention.

Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility

There are a few free sites www.mymonthylcycles.com and www.baby2be.com that are very easy to use. All you need is the first day of your lmp and how long your cycle is and it tells you when you ovulate so that you can conceieve.

seek for egg white-like discharge. Milky white, yellowish, or clean, sticky and stretchy. that is, for lack of a more suitable positive analogy, the audobahn of sperm highways. once you get this it ability "have sex now; you're about to launch an egg."
