Organization should always ultimately, make your life easier. It's perfectly fine to organize your DVD collection for instance, as long as it helps you to find the movie you want from then on. If you spend more time organizing than doing, then organizing has gotten the better hand.

People who spend all of their time organzing and checking things are sometimes diagnosed as "obsessive Compulsive." This is a physiological condition in most cases, and is in the same family as ADD, ADHD, and at the other end of the spectrum, Asberger's syndrome and Autism.

I'm not suggesting that you have any of these, just trying to answer the question completely. The bottom line is:

1. If you are organizing your life to make it easier, you are okay.

2. If you are making your life harder just to get organized, you need to look at your priorities.

Hope this helps.

If it runs your life at the expense of spending time with your kids or spouse/significant other.

How about this test: You assign the kids some chores suitable for their ages. Do you go around behind them "fixing it" because they didn't do it right? If so, you probably need some professional assistance.

...when people around you question your behavior and you find yourself focusing on the details instead of the bigger picture.

Do you color code your closet? After I cleaned my room one night, I put all of my clothes in the ROY G BIV color scheme. It looked really neat at first. A week later, it was all mixed up.

I am so cool.

When you store your change, and/or spend your change, only according to the year minted. If spending a 1988 nickel before your 1966, gives you a panic attack, you have a VERY serious problem. :-)
