Why are there always people who respond to this type of question with the Bible? The Bible isn't a genre.
I'm currently reviving an interest in fantasy, with an occasional foray into sci fi.

my favourite type of fictional book is anything to do with ghosts and spirits.....so the horror genre i guess...although i have a few books about ghosts that are factual (i.e. Non-Fiction), for example, one of my favourite books that i have read recently is called "Psychic Pets And Spirit Animals". Click on the Link below for more info about this book! .

The readable kind.
But seriously, my favorite books have stories that deal greatly with philosophy and irony as they get across their tales. Especially those that deal with good and evil.
The Godfather for example. Michael Corleone takes over a crime family syndicate for the good purpose of protecting his father. In the end, he has sold his soul for a good goal; but loses everything because he did evil to attain that good goal. In one last bid for his life/soul, God provides him with a way to atone for his sins (brings a priest to him so that he may confess). Michael does so; and though he must be punished (with the loss of his daughter), God shows he forgives Michael by allowing him to have good memories of dancing with his wife and his daughter rather than memories of losing his family to death and divorce.
Or in the Count of Monte Cristo. Edmond Dantes is betrayed by those who want his good fortune (his beautiful fiancee and his rank and the money that goes with it in the company he works for). When he finally escapes from the dungeon he is sent to, he immediately goes to getting revenge. But when he goes too far (his vengeance eventually winds up in the unintentional poisoning of an innocent child); he finally comes back to God and works to restore happiness to those that he still can.
Or in the Iliad, the great warrior Achilles is wronged by his commanders. In anger he refuses to fight for them anymore, but because of this his best friend Patroklos is killed in battle (Achilles isn't there to protect him). Want for revenge on Patroklos's killer sends Achilles over the edge, but with the help of God and the father of Patroklos's killer; Achilles comes to terms with his anger and guilt and learns to let it go.
