Do Americans have accents?

I'm an American, and British and Australian people sound funny to me. Do I sound funny to them? I sound pretty normal to me!

Yes, and worse, we have accents in the US that are unintelligible to other people in the US.

I, for example, speak a High-Northern inland Midwest with Glasgowegian inflection. (That means I pronounce orange with one syllable,oranj, and pronounce moat and mote differently, which means linguists on Y!A can tell what CITY I come from in the US, and my ethnic group)

My Mother-in-Law is from Little Rock. She sounds like a cross between Bill Clinton and Tammy Wynette.

The British and the Aussies sound different to me- I can usually nail where someone is from in the UK, and can usually say whether someone is from Sydney or not.

I tried to study linguistics and my eyes crossed. There are people who can tell exactly where people are from based on 2-3 words.

Different parts of America have different accents. Just look at the New York accent or the Boston accent or people from the south.

Yes we do. They have the original accent. Even in other parts of America, people have different accents. I am from NC, and people in ME sound funny to me.

Yeah because they are use to pronouncing things differently so that make it an accent. I come from the south and i have a southern accent, my friend is from new york so he has a new yorker accent, it depends where you come from and how you were taught to speak.

Everybody has an accent but you might not think that you have one, because thats just the way you talk. My Russian friend has an accents and denies it, she says that all us Americans have one.

Every area has region accents. And even w/i an area there are local dialects. I am from New Orleans have had several people tell me they though I was from New York from my accent.
