Hello,
You say it was a race car, is it some sort of half-breed..Chev or Olds motor in the engine bay ??
Is it a 400 Poncho motor and if so here is the part number for the stock Q-jet carb, 17058263 or 17059263.
I'd recommend contacting the professional staff at Summit Racing for a replacement and try sticking with a spread bore carb. The spread bore has small primaries and large secondaries.
I wish I could have been more helpful, sorry.

you are able to upload shorty headers to the aftermarket exhaust. even as replacing the cam, placed on some a million.6 ratio roller rocker hands. get rid of the inventory carb and intake manifold and purchase a reliable aluminum intake like an Edelbrock Performer and an Edelbrock or Holley six hundred cfm carb. Have decrease gears put in contained in the rear axle, about a three.seventy 3 ratio. reality is inspite of the truth that, you gained't get a lot out of a 305 without spending a ton of funds. there is continuously nitrous or a supercharger!

If it's a 4 barrel carburetor, only the front 2 primary barrells work anyways when your not stomping on the accelerator. So really, you have a 2 barrel carburetor now, and I don't think your going to get too much better gas mileage than about 13 miles per gallon with a new economizer 2 barrell carb.

Try a Pontiac club on the net. You should be able to trade with someone to get a smaller cfm carb. Most of the people in these clubs are looking to upgrade in performance. Might be a good situation for you to try......the least costly.

go with an edelbrock performer. they're great carbs. they're designed much better than holleys in many ways. for example, there is no fuel rail to the secondaries, so there aren't any O-rings to break and leak fuel. Also, the fuel bowl is in-accessable, which is good, because there will never be a fuel leak when you are driving. it is a very good and safe carb.

Look at Edelbrock, they make a Holley knockoff that can be tuned for performance or economy. Really, you are looking into CFM (size) to keep air moving through the venturis fast enough at light throttle to keep the engine from bogging. IIRC, you should be looking in the 350 CFM range.
