Am I being haunted?

Well, this is how it all began.. When I moved into my house.. in 2006, I was very excited. There was only 2 bedrooms so I had to sleep in my mothers because I have a brother. A couple months later Weird things have been happening.. Like, Things falling off shelves.. Especially my CD player. Things moving acrossing my nightstand in front of my eyes. This is when I just woke up, about 8:00 am. My back was facing the door and I was looking at my mom. I heard the door open and hard foot steps gettinging closer to me, I though, "Is that my cat?" Buut.... I knew that my cat cant step that hard. Then I felt something REALLY cold touch my back.. Like a hand. Then there was breathing in my ear. Really hard breathing. Like you just ran away from a murderer. I couldn't move my body.. Finally I reached out to my mom and I was able to move my body. Am I being haunted?

Angel Princess,

First thing is first. Be calm. Don't run out seeking "professional" help just yet. First and foremost, you need to be rational (which, maybe you are, but I don't know you) and think clearly. There is homework for you to do before any decent paranormal investigato will take on your claim.

If you REALLY want to get to the bottom of it, you need to treat it seriously. So you need to rule out natural explanations before moving to the paranormal, and believe me, there might be some.

Before I provide you with some alternatives, I need to tell you that I am NOT a psychologist. I am a freelance journalist and Director of the Penn State University Paranormal Research Society. I have worked with psychologists, neurologists and therapists in the field. This information comes from my understanding of what they have told me while working on "paranormal" cases. Now that I have the technicalities out of the way:

With the information you have provided me, it seems that you are having these experiences mainly when you are in bed (be it at night time or when you just wake up). There is an experience known as waking dreams, or sleep paralysis. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, who experience this. It happens as they fall asleep or when they wake up. They are unable to move (almost like paralyzed) and they experience paranormal events. You might hear voices, see spirits or demons. You might see objects move. However, in short, your body is still sleeping. You feel awake but your body is still in sleep mode. When you sleep, your body shuts down and at times can be paralyzed. Like I said, people experience this all over and they too feel like they are experiencing paranormal activity.

The best way to find out if you are experiencing sleep paralysis is to get your parents to schedule an appointment with a neurologist who can perform a sleep study (a lot of people think that they're fun). No, they won't think that you're crazy (at least, if they're professionals). I knew a therapist who has realistic waking dreams.

Now, if you're experiencing paranormal activity and you're SURE that it's not a waking dream, then there are still other things to check. Are you on medication? What are the side effects? Are you using illegal drugs? These questions sound stupid and imposing, but the fact is that people do these things and sometimes, not always, they are the reason why they experience what they think is paranormal activity.

You should obviously tell your mother. Hopefully you have a good relationship with her. If not, is there another adult figure whom you trust?

The next step is to conduct research on the property. It sounds like a chore, but it's not that hard and it can be fun, like being a detective. You can go down to the local county courthouse (or call) and tell them you want the records to the home you live in. You can look your home up in local newspaper websites to see if there's any history. Sooooo many times do we find interesting histories of sites that happen to be haunted.

Any "professional" paranormal investigator will likely want you and your family to do your homework first. Our group does, and the groups we work with do also.

Now to answer your overall question: are you being haunted? No one can give you a definitive "yes" or "no" answer.

If you try all the things listed above, and you speak to your parents, and you still feel that you're being haunted, then I suggest trying to contact a reputable group in your area. By reputable, in my opinion, I am referring to non-charging groups that are well-connected and have at least some professionals in their group focused on medical, counseling or psychology.

If you are religious, it also doesn't hurt to pray and reach out to your faith. At the very least, this might bring you some comfort.

Just talk to your parents or someone you trust, try to get a sleep study, and research your house. If you have a camcorder, you can also hook that up and see if your experiences are on tape. If you can document that objects are moving (such as your CD player) then you know you are not experiencing hallucinations or sleep paralysis). It's also important to talk to your mom because maybe SHE is experiencing paranormal stuff, too.

Wow ... I'm not much for ghosts, but it sounds like it. Did your mom experience what you experienced (did you both freak and say, "What the h*** was that?!")? If not, a possibility could be that you are getting stuck between awake and dreaming. There's something that a questioner here helped me find the other day (they asked about it and I was able to find it on the net) called sleep paralysis. Basically your brain shuts your body off during sleep, so you don't get up and run through the door while sleeping. Sometimes (as did the person with the question), people wake up before this paralysis shuts off and the person can't move. Did it seem like a combo of these things (sleep paralysis, stuck between awake and dreaming)?

Otherwise ... time to move again!!

You DO have something in that house that youn need to get rid of IMMEDIATELY - if not sooner!!!!!!
You'll need professional help, but DON'T call in an exhorcist. Go on-line in you have internet access, and search under "Spirit Releasement Therapy" - it is FAR more effective!
You mentioned having a cat, so I'll use a "cat" as the example here. If your cat jumps onto a nice new ornately-upholstered armchair and you want to remove her from it, what do you do?
If you grab her and try to forcefully extricate her from the chair, she will only dig her claws in deeper and hang on all the harder, and so it is with the usual, traditional (adversarial and confrontational) methods of ejecting unwanted spirits from houses. Methods like "exhorcism".

If yhou hold out a kitty treat and coax your pet, she'll probably be more than happy to jump out of the chair. "Spirit Releasement Therapy" won't try to forcefully drag a reluctant ghost "kicking and screaming" from your house, but rather, will persuade and induce it to leave of its own choice and own volition - making it far less likely to either come back or just go down the street and hassles someone else.

But whatever you decide to do, do SOMETHING! What you have described is NOT good!

It sounds like it. The next time this happens tell the entity that they are dead, and that they should move toward the light. That this world is not their home any longer. Do not be fearful, say it with authority. Ghost/disembodied Spirits thrive on fear. Some can be mischievous. I do not know if you are a believer but the use of the name of Jesus helps also when making the declaration, and saying by the power of the Holy Spirit I command you to leave me and not bother me again. If you are not a believer then it may not work, because they know.

Find a good bible-believing church and speak with the pastor because demons are very real and you need to accept Jesus as your Savior and the Lord of your life. This can happen any time and any place so it's not just the house you're living in. You need prayer and spiritual help ASAP.

DELIVERANCE AND CLEANSING


Demons are fallen angels (Revelation 12:7) and spirits of Nephilim (See Genesis 6 and Numbers 13:33). These beings make up Satan’s spiritual army.


TO TELL IF A PERSON IS DEMON-POSSESSED, CHECK FOR ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS:

HOW PERSONS CAN BE FREE OF DEMONS

Demons gain the right of way to possess or attach themselves to a person when that person sins. Having evil thoughts are sins too (Matthew 5:28). Authority over ALL evil spirits is given by the Lord Jesus Christ to believers only (Luke 10:19). Believers have authority in Christ to bind demons and cast them out of persons (themselves included) in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, providing all persons involved in the deliverance have repented of their sins. Certain demons are harder to cast out. The persons involved in the deliverance would have to practice Christian Prayer and Fasting in order to cast out these demons.

SIGNS OF A HAUNTED PLACE

• Residents fighting often
• Things moving, malfunctioning for no apparent reason or operating on their own
• Items disappearing and reappearing
• Vibrations of furniture or building when there aren’t any earthquakes
• Sudden temperature drops
• Sightings of eerie or evil spirits, shadows or lights

HOW TO GET RID OF EVIL SPIRITS IN YOUR PROPERTY

Evil spirits pass in and out of homes, apartments, buildings and even churches. On the topic of ghosts, souls of the deceased go on to either Heaven or Hell, so if you encounter an entity that looks or sounds like a soul of a human who has passed, bear in mind that demons can and do masquerade as souls of the deceased. If you are involved in occult practices or other types of sin, demons could possess you, attach themselves to you or be around you. These spirits may be attracted to certain items or symbols in the room or property. If you are saved, the Holy Spirit will let you know what these symbols or items are when you come across them.

If you are not saved, here is a prayer to make Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour. If you say this prayer sincerely, your sins will be washed away, you will be redeemed to God, be saved from eternal torment, inherit the Kingdom of God and the Lord Jesus Christ will give you authority over Satan and all demons (Luke 10:19).

As a believer, you can get rid of the demons in your property, land or room by yourself or with others who are saved by saying a prayer in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is better if you pray with other Christians because the Lord Jesus promises to be in the presence of two or more believers gathered in His name (Matthew 18:20). Before you pray, you need to do two things. First, identify any cursed items or symbols in the property or land and destroy or anoint them accordingly. Occultic items (such as Ouija boards, witchcraft books and tools, books and other media that are against Christianity, tarot cards, crystal balls, fetishes and occultic jewelry) and occultic symbols must be destroyed. Such symbols must be erased, removed or painted over, and occultic items must be smashed or burnt. For a cursed item that is not of the occult (an item that was cursed by a witch), you can anoint it, break the curse off of it and bless it in Jesus’ name. The second thing you need to do is use virgin olive oil that has been blessed (by a Christian) to anoint yourself and the person/s praying with you, other Christian residents and pets. In the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we bind all of you demonic strongmen and your subordinates and every astral traveler in this place, and WE COMMAND ALL OF YOU EVIL SPIRITS TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. We ask You Lord Jesus to deal with any demons or astral travelers who are refusing to leave. We pray against counter attacks, retaliation and revenge of evil spirits. We claim Isaiah 54:17 and declare that ‘No weapon formed against us shall prosper’. We thank You Father God for all angels assigned to us and ask that You would dispatch them at Your discretion.

If in the future you experience demonic activity in the home, tell the evil spirit/s with faith, "I command you to leave now in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!"
