Well, we're not kids anymore, but this English teacher (I'm from Romania) keeps asking us to conjugate verbs as homework, like, I write, you write, he writes, and so on...at all tenses, persons, aspects, and forms. I may be not perfect in English but I don't think I deserve such a treatment, it's so frustrating and it takes a lot of time. This teacher is a difficult person, she seems cynical and unsatisfied with her own life. We cannot just talk to her openly, she would laugh in our face. She justifies it by telling the English level of my class is low and we have to conjugate verbs in order to master them...it's absurd, we've already filled a lot of A4 sheets with conjugations. Now I have the idea of writing everything down as politely as I can, have he paper signed by my classmates and present it to her, and to her superiors as well(they may have a part in the whole thing). What do you think? Will she be hurt in her pride? What should we do?This situation is scratching on my nerves!

hi...

it seems by your message here that you do have a good grasp of the English language... it may be that your teachers ability is somewhat limited and she is stuck on this one topic because it is something she knows well....

I would not push the situation and hurt her feelings... but that is just me... I dont see that taking up a petition about this with your classmates is a bit overdone when you can talk to her... try asking her, when you are on your own with her, why she thinks conjugating verbs requires so much of the class time and attention.

First of all, you're English is veeery (stretched out for dramatic effect) good! You should be proud. I do think that perhaps this teacher may have had something to do that (maybe just a little).

I can definitely tell you that her pride would be hurt, and I would encourage you to hang in there and stick with it. You will most likely only have her as a teacher for a short period longer, but the trouble from this could last much longer. Teachers talk, and they believe each other. If you are labeled a trouble maker it can follow you for quite some time.

A better route might be to see if you can convince her to "lighten up" a bit on those that seem to be handling the assignments well already. Perhaps you could suggest that those that are doing well could help those that are not (that makes her job easier). I think these ideas may go much further and have a much more positive outcome than a petition.

Good luck, I hear that our language is very tough to learn, because we break so many of our own linguistic rules (that, coupled with the amount of times that Briton was invaded by others bringing in other languages [the Britons had a language, the Romans invaded, then the Angles and Saxons invaded, then the Normans - it's a wonder we can speak at all ... LOL]).

You may not like my answer, but unless everyone in the class is consistently getting 100% correct on ALL the conjugation assignments, you need to keep a good attitude and keep on conjugating verbs. English is a very complicated language, with lots of opportunity for misunderstanding. Your teacher may have an unpleasant personality, but she is your teacher. She would not have the job if she were not good at what she does. Do yourself a favor and stay humble, in the knowledge that if you continue to complete your conjugations until you get all of them right every time, your English will be better when you complete the class. With a superior grasp of the English language, you will have a better chance of landing a superior job and making more money. She is probably bored and frustrated by teaching people to speak, write and understand English who show their gratitude by trying to squirm out of doing their assignments and by trying to get her in trouble with her superiors. The assignments you describe are given to every child in America when we learn our mother tongue. They were given to my German grandmother when she immigrated to America at the tender age of 58. She completed those hated assignments with a spirit of humility and gratitude, and when she died at 94, she was still teaching English as a second language by those very successful methods.
If you are hurt in your pride, I am sorry, but yours is the attitude that needs adjustment, at least until you have improved your English a great deal, if your letter is any indication. Best wishes to you in learning this difficult and complicated language, and in finding a happy place to live in this beautiful land of Opportunity!

I suspect that that is all she knows or the only area of English she feels comfortable with. You and the rest of the class need to make an appointment to speak to her superiors. Explain that you have mastered the conjugation of verbs and need to move on. She should be replaced or at least reprimanded. Good luck.

Do what you feel is right...what grade are you in....if it is something that she is told to teach then you must do and learn even if you know it already...if not then you need to go to a higher authority and present the problem which i dont think that the teacher is making you do this for nothing....good luck

Be very plain in asking "What is your damage?" This person is obviously having some diffucult problems in their life and the only way to feel good about themselves is to make those around them miserable. Take a stand and let them know that it is their job to help you and you are doing your best.

one thing ive learned is that if your teacher is a complete @$$ then what you have to do is try and treat her like shes the queen tho u want to kill her and another thing is if you stay after class or school with her and try to get help tho you kjno what you are doing it will make you loook like you are going out of your way to get the job done and it will also give you time to become closer
