Whan I was younger I used to dream on a regular basis of being on dry land that would suddenly flood and leave me with a helpless feeling that I was going to drown. The dreams weren`t centred around water, I could be deaming about a town or somewhere in the country and the water would just appear. Don`t get it very much now only once maybe twice a year. What is it all about?

I have a different interperation than what seems to be the norm.

There are two ways people can interpert dreams.
1. The first way comes from modern U.S. society. In this way each thing in the dream symbolizes something. It is as if we own the dream and everything in it. Some people even go so far as to say that all people in a dream represent some part of the self.
2. The second way is somewhat more cultural I would say. That things come to you in a dream for a reason. You don't own them, it is a message for you.

I tend to believe more in the second way of interperting dreams. Not all dreams I think have such significance but some do. We usually can feel what dreams these are by trusting our intution. Also a basic way to determine this is if the dream sticks with you (you think about it a lot, have an urge to understand it) it is probably important.

If you interpert this dream less on what water symbolizes and more as what message is being sent to you, you come up with a different type of interpertation.

We all know that water is life and water is cleansing. That is common sense, it needs no further symbolism. Land is earth, is solid, is foundation.
It seems like a message is "being sent/given" to you about renewal, being cleaned, starting anew. You are on solid ground and then washed away. It is scary. Being cleansed, starting anew is always scary, especially when you don't understand it. Since it happens regularly it seems to be a symbol for you to know when change is coming or that you have the opportunity to clean yourself off and start again.
It seems like a very honorable dream. Many people would love the chance to be cleansed in such a way and to know it.
Maybe the more control and understanding you have about "cleaning" yourself, renewing things the less helpless you will feel. Or maybe you are supposed to feel helpless so you can start fresh.

Well, that's my take on things. Hope it adds something to your personal nterperation. All in all trust your gut.

My mother was very good at interpreting dreams,
The feeling you had when you were on dry land made you feel safe. when the water started to flood it frightened you, more so if you were a child.I would say you had some interrupting episodes in your life that left you feeling vulnerable and frightened.
As you got older you were more able to ride over the rough times, and now and again the little girl in you still has that fear, but not as often and the older you get I am sure the fear will Disappear, and you will be more in control.
Good Luck and learn to read your dreams

Dry land symbolises your need to be in control, your need and desire for stability and normality!

The suddeness of the flood is symbolic of your fear of being swept away in a sexual frenzy, of allowing your sexual urges to control you. I would deduce from these dreams that you are drawn to solitary pursuits and are maybe classed as a bit weird amongst your friends. Unusual hobbies which exclude women probably attract you and you may still live with your parents. I would also guess at some underlying de-masclising fear, for instance, of going bald, haunts you!

I would love to assure you that it is just a dream but I fear that this fundemental fear of women is going to be resolved with a 1 night stand in Ayrshire with a semi psychotic stalker type with a riding crop, who will intensify your fear of women and turn you forever toward a life of celibacy!!!

I'd say it's a sign of feeling fear of losing your depth in a situation. I have a similar dream of being on a beach and I suddenly realise there is water all around me, I'm stranded, then it actually happened ! nothing disastrous, just wet jeans ! seriously i'd say the situation may indicate the area of your life where you feel you may get out of your depth.
