I have a 6 month old, too, and a lot of times, she's perfectly happy to sit in her bobby with a few toys around her. I also play a game called "Here comes the bumble bee" where I hold up my finger, do a buzzing noise, then tickle her neck. Now when she sees my finger in the air, she squeels with anticipation.
I also sing to her and read to her. I point out her different body parts, make faces and encourage her to immitate them, blow raspberries on her tummy...just anything that comes to mind.
You really don't need that fancy stuff to keep your baby entertained. Just watching mommy make funny faces and interact with him should be entertainment enough.

Get him colorful books that he can mouth and handle, in addition to listening to them. Also, find household objects that are safe and enjoyable. For example, my son likes small plastic spoons and his pacifier for grabbing and waving around. Babies often enjoy everyday things the most!
If you have a little money to spend, you have some other good options. Small toys that make noise or light up are inexpensive and should entertain him. If you have a bit more to spend, babies often love bouncy seats with attached toys and you can often find these at consignment shops or garage sales.

Lids. . . . you have to have patience . . . you know, the lids to your pots and pans!! They make for a great noise maker. Take an empty coffee can of something with a secure lid, (Tupperware) place beans, rice or anything like it to create a different type of noise maker. Try to color and decorate it to make it attractive. If you have fabric, just sew it around. If you choose to make the noise maker from beans or rice, be sure the container you use is tightly secured. Be sure your baby can not chew through it or open it. It can be a choking hazard if not secured right.
Babies like variety! take any type of plastic Tupperware and other small objects to place into the containers. Place a small toy of his into the Tupperware and watch him figure out how to get it out. Once he figures that out. . . he will try to put it back in.

Don't you just love ignorant people? Anyway, if you have any kind of mirror, even one of the plastic ones, let him play with that. At 6 months, they really don't express that they're happy, just sad. I know what your going through with not having money for toys and stuff, but trust me, the mirror will do the trick. Email me at purple_snowball_1117@yahoo.com I may be able to help you :)
Good luck and don't let stupid people make you feel bad.

place toys basically out of his attain so as that he can attempt to snatch them. Tummy time is relaxing while mom is on the floor with infant. A non-breakable replicate is a good element for toddlers at this age. If he has rattles, he could in all hazard love making track for mom. additionally, in case you go searching, you will locate a good infant entertainment midsection that little you are able to still sit down in.

you don't really need to have anything expensive but it sounds he needs something 'new'. In fact, I havne't opened most of the gifts she got from her family. My daughter loves a half filled bottle of water with a clean sponge floating around in it.
