Mailny they used dyes for their clothes. Noble Roman offer prefered to wair colorful tunics and togas. Of the use of dies among Egyptians I do not know much, however they definetly knew and used dyes - purple for instance.

I'm not sure they used Dyes. For all I know the egyptians were the first users of eyeliners. Then the romans.

I saw this on the history channel. It turns out that while they were great builders, engineers and mathematicians they sucked at decorating. They used it to decorate the pharoh's tombs and temples.
Dye was also expensive for them to make so they didn't use much of it and only kept it to a few colors.
