it depends a lot on the type of fish, some fish are more sensitive to water changes than others (otos, for example, will die quite readily if not acclimated very slowly). Generally speaking, allow the bag to float for 5-10 minutes to acclimate the temperature. Then add some water to the bag from your tank every five minute or so for an additional 25-30 minutes. This allows them to get used to the water temperature and quality and helps prevent shock. When adding them to the tank, try to not get any of the petstore water in the tank as you'll be more likely to transmit disease this way.

I've read some of the answers, but 15 minutes is all I do. All you need is for the water in the bag to become the same temperature as the water in the tank. DON'T put the water from the bag in the water. I'm sure the water from it's original tank was good, but imagine how bad the water is now that it's been sealed off and the fish has been frightened during the whole move and ordeal and all that waste in the bag. Just fish him out and stick him/her in the tank. Watch it for a little bit, but it should be fine.

Adjusting to new water is called acclamation. You want to acclimate your fish over 30-60 minutes. Put the bag in water for 10 minutes than add a little water from the tank to the bag and let sit for another 10 minutes, repeat 2-5 times ( I like to double water in the bag). This will allow fish to get used to temperature and pH of the new tank. When adding fish do not add water from bag, dump fish gently through a net and release.

The longer the better (but not TOO long). If the fish really took a chunk out of your wallet, your going to want to not only float the fish, but also introduce small amounts of your tank water into the bag in small increments of time. Between a half hour and hour I would say is a good amount of time for this.

It relies upon on the size and style of fish interior the bag. tell your LFS approximately your concern and that they are going to be happy to apply an even bigger bag and to pump extra oxygen interior the bag so the fish can stay interior the bag longer. Fish can stay in a bag for as much as twelve hours. I particularly have even experienced transporting a bag of cory catfish in a bag in one day (on the threshold of 24 hours) by boat and the subsequent morning the fish have been all super. in simple terms make constructive the bag teach no sign of deflating. think of roughly this. some fishes come from wholesalers interior the some distance East (Singapore, Thailand, etc.) they're transported in plastic luggage interior styrofoam packing containers to the united statesA. and the holiday might final for as much as twelve or extra hours.

You should put the bag with the fish in it into the aquarium and leave it until the water in the bag is the same temp and the water in the aquarium.

most people will say 30 minutes but 15 will do. they just need to be in there long enough for their water in the bag to adjust to the temperature of your tank.

24 hours, under the following circumstances:
Get a fish bowl. Wash it carefully with a mild soap and rinse very thoroughly.
Fill the bowl with purified water. Let sit overnight, or 24 hours from when you put the water in the bowl.
Then, and ONLY then, put your fish in the bowl, along with the water from the bag.
Best wishes with your new pet.

Put the bag in the tank, keep them in the bag for like a couple of hours(so they get used to the temprature) then release them into the tank.
