My fiance and I lost a kitten around chritmas time, and my parents got us one as a gift. He is adorable and knows it. He is 9 months old and still the size of a kitten and acts like one too. He now shreds everything and wont stay off the tables and taught our well behaved cat how to be bad. They shred rolls of toliet paper, paper towels, bills or papers on the table, napkins paper plates. THey find it they shred it. Is there any way i can teach them "no" without being cruel? Spanking them hasnt dampered their bad behavior, what will?!?! My fiance is threatening to get rid of them. Any advice animal lovers?

Try a can with some pennies in it, when you see bad behaviour toss the can in it's direction. If that doesn't work, then try a water bottle, cats hate to be sprayed... If you want to keep a cat off the counter tops, tables etc.. Put 2 faced tape on the counter / table, cat jumps up and his paw touches the tape and he hates it. It won't take more than a couple of times before he realizes that he doesn't want to be on the counter.

You sound like me. I had 3 well behaved cats and introduced an 8 week old demented female into the mix.
I did this because my son's girlfriend took a kitten that they brought into the house back to her place when they broke up. Use a spray bottle with water and squirt any bad behaviour as soon as it happens, they are just like kids and need the consistency of discipline. Good Luck
Don't give up, my lot are better now.

The spray bottle is definetly the way to go. It works fast too--I did this with my cat when she was young. After a few times I would just need to pick up the bottle or say its name and she stopped. That was two years ago and she still doesn't get on tables, counters, etc.

:YES!!! get that little spray bottle filled with water.. that is the main key.
but just in case you are thinking your kitten is possessed.. heck no! its just being a kitten.. you have a wild cat and you need lots of love to tame it.. Make sure there are plenty of active cat toys to mess around with. a big brown grocery bag is a perfect cat cave.. how about a climbing tower, rolling things.. boxes with holes to reach into.. nothing like reaching in and rolling a little jack ball around or some other delight. Rolling on the floor with a catnip mouse is good for entertainment.. both yours and the cats.. lol.. they are Curious!
I have experienced with my mother cats, that with each litter of kittys, mommy goes through a youthfull time too. My mommies used to climb trees with the kittens and show them how to lurk around the bushes waiting to pounce on any little bird or field mouse it should see.. We used to put out two cinder blocks in the yard so they had plenty of ambush hidey places. As the kittens got older the mommy relaxed too. so its just a thing you need to deal with and after a while they out grow kitten and find a nice warm pur-r-r-ring place in the sun. Of course, what cat can resist the catfishing pole with a string and a feather for bait.. lots of stuff to make a kitty soooo tired that it loves a nice nap. Good luck while you go through the gentle taming time.

get a squirt bottle and fill it with water. squirt the cat when it is doing something wrong. It will run and learn not to get on the counter or tear up the paper. IT won't harm the cat but teach it what you want/

spanking does not work on cats!! have you tried a water gun? citrus scented repellent on furniture? i have a young cat with similar issues, who also taught my older cats bad behavior. hes obsessed with plastic or bags that make noise. he was so bad that he was able to tear pages out of scrapbooks and tear them up. i find that offering him a paper or plastic bag to play with helps. he goes nuts for a few hrs and gets it outta his system, i guess. i thnk some cats just need more activity and stimulation than others, so i try to play with him as much as i can to tire him. good luck!

SIMPLE! A spray bottle of water. Get a spray bottle, fill it. When it does something it is not supposed to, be there---SPRAY it in the face. Cats hate water. Soon it will associate what its doing with that!

IT REALLY WORKS!
