Conventional forces always have trouble with guerrillas. If the guerrillas are properly supplied they are rarely defeated militarily. They can be defeated by cutting off their support. This is very difficult when they are fighting in their own country. To paraphrase Mao, fish swimming in the sea of the people.

It is a pity that the current US administration is too stupid to work this out.
