I told my friend that if we were designing a building suitable for earthquakes, that rubber could keep the seismic waves from doing too much damage. If you were to put like these huge rubber things under a building, would it like resist seismic jolts? Just a silly question we were arguing about. Thanks!

It's not silly, and is actually being done. Architects have been designing them for years. GREAT idea!

All the bridges are having rubber pads to avoid transmission of vibration from moving vehicle to ground. The same way we can construct the house on rubber pad provided if the base of your building is larger than its height. We want to ensure the stability before we consider about shock absorption.
