If you are an American... you will always receive the minimum wage per hour OR your commission check... whichever is higher. This is THE LAW in every state.
If you are good with people and can LISTEN to what they really want, you can earn a commision and be well paid. But if you are a jerk and try to pressure people into buying TODAY TODAY TODAY.. you will fail.
Most furniture buyers are looking for furniture AND a salesman that deserves the sale. A nice funny humourous guy that makes their day different. Some people go to 4 stores in one day. Will you be the predictable jerk, or the helpful patient one?

RE:
This may be a dumb question but.....What does it mean to work on 100 percent commission?
I was thinking of applying to a furniture store as a salesman. I have never been a salesman before. The question on the ap asked if you have ever worked for 100 percent commissions before. Do you still get base pay if you work on 100percent commissions? Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Any...

The answers you've received to date are correct; there is no base salary, you are only paid commission. Your prospective organization may, however, provide you with a draw on your commission. A draw is an advance on future commission earnings paid in instalments (weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, etc.). The draw plan has been used successfully by many organizations and lessens the impact of not receiving commission income immediately. Ask your employer if they offer a draw on commission plan. If so, review the employment contract carefully to ensure you do not have to repay the commission you received in advance if you leave or are terminated while in a negative earnings situation. It's always good to have an employment attorney review all employment contracts before signing.
Hope this helped.

!00% commission means you are only paid for what you sell..
No base pay.
Some places also work on an advance plan, where they pay you a set amount per payperiod.
With this they pay with money you haven't made yet, this can get you into trouble if you can't make enough to cover the advances.

The only funds you receive is a percentage of the sales you make. 100% means you will not receive any base salary or hourly wage. If you are considering the job ask what percentage you will receive for each sale you make. If you are not used to this type of income it might be best that you have another job to bring in the money until you start making sales. Good Luck to you!

There is No hourly wage or salary wage, you strictly work off of commission. Meaning you dont make money unless you make sales. So it could be very risky.

100% commissions means you don't get a salary, just a percentage of the sales you make.
