cousins, step-parents? mine doesn't. i asked about it and they claim that they do local business surveys and adjust their benefits accordingly to be competitive. the last place i worked paid at least ONE day for extended family members. ours pay up to 3 days for mother/father, spouse (including fiancees i believe), child, bro/sis, in-law parents, and one day for grandparents. NO OTHER family member is covered.

i'm taking a survey to see what the 'norm' is out there. the 10 points will be given to whomever has the most info they can share... especially (but not exclusively) if they're in the business/HR field.

thanks!

We live in a rural area and most of the business around here give one day off, that is paid (regular wage amount) to spouse's or parent's if the person is unmarried - nothing for siblings, aunts , uncles or extended family.
Most companies will let you take off work to attend the funeral but you aren't paid if you weren't the spouse or parent.

Some family owned businesses will close up to 3 days , if a member passes away and other family has to travel to get here but usually that is rare. They just wait until the weekend to have the funeral - so they only have to close on Saturday and back to business as usual on Monday.
