I'm a teenager and my Dad always says this to me, even at random moments (I suppose when he's just thinking) ---
"If it ever came down to it I would die for you. I mean it. If we were in a blizzard in the middle of nowhere I would shield you with my body to protect you and keep you warm, and die myself."
I think most parents would readily give themselves for their child.

It isn't even a question of what we would do if the time came to saving our children. It is a parents instinct to save our children in a dangerous situation. Even if it means giving up our own life.

As a parent ....I would gladly sacrifice my life to save my children or grand children....no questions asked.....
I don't know why it's different for each individual I just know that it is.....
I personally know someone that ran or panicked if you will and left her 3 young children to parish in a fire....when they were within arms reach.....

There wouldn't be a second of thought,,,,I would give my life for my child in less than a heartbeat...Some may not, but the ones that truly cherish their children wouldn't think twice..

Some would and some wouldn't. To wit, some parents actually kill their children. People differ.
